The National Cyber Authority (NCA) was established in Israel in the year 2012. Subsequently in the year 2015, the agency was provided a comprehensive plan for national readiness in cyberspace. On 26 Apr 2017, the Israeli Government announced that the country was under a massive Cyber Attack on over 200 entities including, government ministries, public bodies, and private individuals.
“We are positive that we have succeeded in thwarting the attack very well,” said Alberto (Deto) Hasson, CERT director in the NCA. “We’ve carried out a serious investigation over the past weekend. We know with very high certainty who was attacked and how.“
Hasson further added that “this was a massive attack, one of the largest we have witnessed. Its intention was to take control of companies’ computers. Once that happens, whoever controls it can do as he pleases.“
The Israeli authorities have now passed suitable instructions to all concern to exercise caution and also to increase the level of security and vigilance to beat back any attack that may occur. The involvement of State-Actors, has also not been ruled out. The NCA website has also been provided with additional information for those industries/individuals who would need assistance on Cyber Security Education and Proactive Cyber Security.
